I may have found my dream tyres – Vittoria Terreno Zero 700x32c Product Reviews Views & Opinion by MuddyGoose - October 7, 2020October 7, 202010 Tyres, tyres, tyres. (or even tires if you're from the US). This won't be the first time that I've blogged about tyres and it may not be the last time either. But when this set of tyres wears out, it may well be the first time I replace like for like. So have I finally found a tyre that I'm happy to keep buying and riding year after year? Very possibly. Towards the end of 2019, I decided to buy some tyres for the winter which could double up as suitable for light gravel riding. At the time I struggled to decide between the Vittoria Terreno Dry and the Vittoria Terreno Zero. The Dry being more treaded and classed by Vittoria
Tubeless Tyre Update – repairs and top ups. Maintenance by MuddyGoose - October 7, 2019October 7, 20190 Some people seem to have an impression of infallibility when it comes to tubeless bike tyres. I guess it makes sense having seen some of the marketing hype. Unfortunately some of that marketing hype makes other cynical types call it all hype and set their stall out at the other extreme. But in some ways I think that's just indicative of the days that we're living in today. The extremes taking entrenched positions and backing up their own views with a narrow slice of internet 'evidence'. Enough of the philosophy though, let's get back to bikes! I like to give an even and reliable account, so here's an update of my recent tubeless tyre experiences. When I was out riding
My Kinesis RTD Build Product Reviews Views & Opinion by MuddyGoose - August 15, 2019August 15, 20198 So in my last blog post I wrote about my new frameset and the fact that I had chosen a Kinesis RTD as my new bike. However what I didn't go on to talk about was the build - the parts chosen to complete the bike. So let's delve into the world of bike components and take a look at what I've put together. And I might even indulge you and give you the build weight too. As mentioned in my previous post (or at least I hope it was), the RTD is a frameset only option from Kinesis. If you see it available in your local bike shop, or online as a complete bike it's the bike shop's build, not
New Tyres for the road bike – Hutchinson Fusion 5 Performance 11storm. Product Reviews by MuddyGoose - May 28, 2019May 29, 20190 There are only so many miles you can eek out of tyres and I think with my recent set of Hutchinson Fusion 5 All Seasons I had pretty much reached that limit. A long time after they lose their peak performance, run out of tread and square off you start to spot patches of the tyre where there's no longer any rubber and the carcass beneath shows through. This is when you've definitely got your money's worth, for sure! These had a good few miles This tyre was on my front wheel, so it completed significantly more miles than the rear one did. When the rear needed replacing last year I chose to try out a Hutchinson Sector tyre. Just the one
New Tyre – Hutchinson Sector Tubeless 700x28c Maintenance by MuddyGoose - September 7, 20170 Even the most frugal rider who resists the urge to upgrade, will still eventually have to spend some money on his or her bike. Things do wear out after all and one of those things that wear of course is your tyres. Much like on a car, it's a gradual process that you don't see happening, a process that can creep up on you unexpectedly. Unlike car tyres though, there's no legal tread limit for bicycles, so forgetting to keep on top of things won't be bringing you a nasty fine any time soon. I for one am happy about this as my departing rear tyre would have been well beyond it's limit, with fabric casing showing through the bald
Hutchinson Fusion 5 All Season Tubeless Tyres 700x25c Maintenance Product Reviews by MuddyGoose - June 23, 20163 I have a long ride coming up, 250 miles, in a single day. I'll post more about that in another dedicated post but for now I wanted to justify the purchasing of new tyres. My current tyres are starting to get towards the end of their life, I will aim to eek out some extra miles from them later in the year but for the big ride I wanted some that were wider and newer. So after much studying of the options I've decided to go for the Hutchinson Fusion 5 in the 'All Season' guise and in the 700x25c size. 789
Road Tubeless – My views (2016) Views & Opinion by MuddyGoose - April 13, 20160 Tubeless tyre technology has become a huge thing in the mountain biking world. It arrived properly several years ago and has gone from strength to strength with a huge range of tubeless wheel & tyre options available today. I too joined in, as a relatively early adopter, with a self assembled wheelset based around Mavic XM-819 rims and paired them with some UST Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres. But what about road cycling? 624
